For this Merida bike tour, meet at the Cathedral in downtown Merida at 8:00 am. After meeting our local guide, he will lead us to the Mayan village of Tixcocob, a 45 minutes bus ride, enough time to learn some of the customs of Mayan people. Getting on a public bus will be part of the adventure! Upon arrival to Tixcocob, we will visit the church and will see the uniqueness of the vendors at the market. Fresh vegetables and fruits, tortillas, meat and tricycle taxis. Tixcocob is also home to many hammock artisans in the Yucatan.Tour Mexico, Tour Micronesia, Tour Moldova, Then, our Merida biking tour begins as we bike 11 kilometers (6.8 miles) to Ake Mayan ruins, passing trough remote and sleepy villages, where kids say goodbye. With its large and mysterious columns and huge steps, Ake differentiates from other Mayan sites that usually don’t have these kinds of monumental structures. One of the interesting features of the ruins of Ake, is that we still can see the “sacbehs” or white roads, that the ancient Mayas used to communicate from one village to the other. The “sacbehs” we find in the Yucatan are several kilometers long. Tour Mexico, Tour Micronesia, Tour Moldova,After the Mayan Ruins we will stop by the functioning Sisal Hacienda, owned by the Solis family. We’ll have a look of the 19th century when we witness the workers carrying the Henequen leaves into the Machine room and then to the drying area. We head back to Tixcocob for lunch at a real Mayan family.
